That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
These passages tell us so much about our life in Christ and the changes Jesus has brought about in our hearts and minds because of our faith in Him. First Christ dwells in us because we are filled with the Holy Spirit when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit does a work in our hearts and minds to bring about spiritual growth in us. And by continuing to place our trust in Jesus alone, we become rooted in Him and grounded in love. A love that does not come from ourselves, but from Jesus who imparts His love to us, storing it deep within our hearts. A love that goes far beyond human understanding and a love that in turn gives us abundant life in Him.
Our joy and prayer is that through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, as we submit to His guidance, we become filled with the fullness of Christ, where we die to self and live for Jesus sake. We grow in the knowledge of the love God has for us and the wisdom we learn from God through the study of His word. The Bible is the word of God. It is His divine revelation given to us in order that we may learn more about Him and His plan of redemption for all of mankind. And as we study God’s word the Holy Spirit who indwells us helps to illuminate scripture for us. This means that as we study the Bible the Holy Spirit deepens our understanding of scripture, our understanding of God and who Jesus really is and what He has done for us.
