God Knows Our Hearts – (1st Corinthians 2:10-11)

Bible Verse
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

Reading Notes
Spiritual wisdom comes from God and that’s what Paul is speaking about here. True wisdom comes from God and from His word as revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. However, God’s wisdom is not fully available to us without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and a relationship with God. And only a relationship with Jesus can restore our relationship with God, remove our sin and bring the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. As followers of Christ, we should understand we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus our Lord. And secondly, God knows our hearts and despite our actions and thoughts God wants a relationship with us and not our works. As these passages clarify for us God is looking at our hearts, our thoughts and the motives behind our actions.

God is not looking for us to impress Him with our good deeds, nor our religious activities. On the contrary the only good deeds that count with God are those done out of our love for Jesus and our love for others. Those things we do with humility and love, expecting nothing in return. We cannot fully understand God’s ways. Moreover the Bible tells us His ways are not our ways and that His thoughts toward us are of love and peace. It’s the Holy Spirit who truly knows what lies at the core of our hearts. And it’s the Holy Spirit who aids us in our relationship with God the Father. God has given us the revelation of His word along with the Holy Spirit to guide us because of our faith in Jesus. Therefore, we are to walk by faith, not by works, submitting to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we live our daily lives. It’s the Holy Spirit and God’s word, that brings true wisdom. And it’s God’s word which reveals to us His plan of redemption in Christ Jesus our Lord.
