Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
All of creation, we included groan under the curse of sin. We wait for the glorious day of our restoration when Jesus returns for us. One of the gifts imparted to us as followers of Christ, is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who makes intercession for us as we live our daily lives. We should never forget it’s the Holy Spirit, who takes us through the process of salvation and consecration. This process is called sanctification, and it continues our entire life until we go home to be with the Lord. Moreover, the Holy Spirit works with our spirit, which was reborn again into salvation, to make intercession for us and build us into stronger disciples and deepen our love for the Lord.
Sanctification starts with our coming to faith in Jesus, and it continues as the Holy Spirit indwells us and guides us in our spiritual growth. When we were saved through our faith in Jesus, God renewed our spirit which was dead in our trespasses and sins. Through faith God gave us a new spirit which is alive to Christ. The Holy Spirit then works with our new spirit to continue His work of sanctification in our lives until the time of our glorification. Glorification refers to that time when we return home to be with Jesus. It’s through the power of the Holy Spirit working in our lives and on our hearts, that we develop a love and compassion for the things of God, deepen our love for the Lord, deepen our love for others, and become more effective for the kingdom of God. By working directly with our new spirit, the Holy Spirit develops in us a love for God’s word and a love for the lost who do not know Jesus and therefore, are still separated from God.
