Behold I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed In a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written Death is swallowed up in victory.
Once again Paul is discussing the issue of the rapture with believers. Here Paul is speaking of our glorified body which we will receive when we go home to be with the Lord. The rapture is called the “Blessed hope for all Christians.” It’s a time when Christ returns for His own taking those who truly love Him to be home with Him in heaven. We as Christians have to make sure we do not mix up the rapture with the second return of Christ. These are two different events, both occur at different times. Moreover, the details surrounding each event are completely different. In addition, in the rapture we meet Jesus in the air, whereas in the second coming Jesus returns and sets up His Millennial Kingdom.
It should be a comfort to all of us that Jesus promised He would return and take those who put their faith in Him to heaven, so that we would ever be with Him. Moreover, Jesus gave us a guarantee through His resurrection, which is our ultimate assurance that He was indeed who He claim to be, the Son of God which means He is God in the flesh. Paul is giving us a reminder for those who are alive when the rapture occurs, we will all receive our glorified bodies. In a twinkling of an eye our old corruptible body will be replaced with a new incorruptible body that is made to be in the presence of Jesus forevermore. Paul wrote these words to a fledging church. They were afraid that because some of the believers had died, that they would miss the return of Christ. Therefore, Paul wrote these instructions to edify and reassure this growing church that no believer will miss the rapture.
