Our Wisdom is Foolishness to God – (1st Corinthians 1:19-21)

Bible Verse
For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

Reading Notes
When Paul quoted this passage he did so from the book of Isaiah. Taken from Isaiah 19:12, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” All of man’s wisdom will be destroyed at the end of the age when Christ comes to set up His kingdom. And because man in his wisdom did not acknowledge God, God will bring to nothing the striving of men. Man’s wisdom focuses on man and the things of man such as pride, power, money and influence. Therefore, the Lord uses the foolish things of the world to bring to shame the wisdom of men.

And because the wisdom of men is foolishness to God, He uses the simple message of the Gospel of Christ to bring people to salvation and give them eternal life. Ultimately, because of the fallen nature of this world and the fallen nature of mankind in general, all of the wisdom of man will fail. And because of that man’s wisdom will not last the test of eternity. That being the case where should we place our trust? In what or whom shall we place our faith? We should place our trust where it belongs in Christ Jesus our Lord and place our faith in Him alone and the surety of His word for a more abundant life now and in eternity to come.
