Bible Verse
Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

Reading Notes
God’s Word gives us guidance on how to live our lives in a manner that pleases Him and gives us rest and comfort. In the book of Proverbs we can find wisdom and guidance. In the book of Psalms we learn how to praise and worship the Lord. These come together in the Gospels where we learn our greatest comfort and rest comes from knowing our salvation is secure in the arms of Christ Jesus our Lord. Moreover, God’s word in both the Old and New Testaments show us that those who truly love the Lord and have a heart for God, those who come before God in humility and brokenness because of our sinful nature can receive salvation. In the Old Testament we learn how God dealt with mankind and why we needed a Savior, as God revealed His plan of redemption. The Bible first shows us our need for a Savior, then it shows how and why we are saved through our faith in Jesus and His atoning work at the Cross.

In the Old Testament we see God give us His law which acted like a mirror reflecting back to us our sinful nature and showed us once and for all our need for a Savior. In the New Testament we learn that our redemption is provided through faith alone in Christ Jesus our Lord and the sacrifice He made for us at the Cross of Calvary. We learn that God because of His mercy and grace, provided a way by which sinful mankind could be reconciled back to a holy God. Therefore, we learn that salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone, because of the grace of God. God’s mercy and forgiveness are given to us through Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself the penalty for our sins. In addition, the gift of salvation brings with it the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It’s the Holy Spirit, which produces good works in us as a result of the changes which take place in our hearts because of our salvation and the sanctifying work of God. And it’s these works which come from the love we have for Christ, which become the fruit of our salvation.
