Seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Reading Notes
The Apostle Paul, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit tells us that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God the Father because of His completed work on the Cross of Calvary. There is nothing more mankind can do for salvation. There are no additional works we can add to what Jesus has already done for us, ours is to accept Jesus by faith alone, because it is the grace of God for salvation. More importantly, there are no other paths to salvation, there are no other religions that can save people or provide salvation through faith alone. Mankind may not realize it yet, but there are no other gods. Dear child of God, there are really only two positions available to humanity in the world today, one is salvation by God’s grace, through faith alone in Jesus alone, and the other, regardless of name is a system of human works and achievement. Works meant to make us more pleasing to God and thereby force God to accept us by our own merit. And the lie of Satan is that the latter can save us. When in reality it will always guarantee destruction and eternal separation from God. Satan understands the fallen nature of the human heart, he understands that the human heart loves pride and this means our fallen nature will always be drawn to any system, whereby we can save ourselves through our own achievements.
We can never forget Satan has already lost, he knows the end that awaits him and his only goal is to bring as many people, made in the image of God, with him into everlasting destruction. The terms principality, power, might and dominion are Jewish idioms, used to refer to angelic beings, specifically in this case demonic beings. This was necessary for Paul to explain to the church in Ephesus because of the magic and occult practices which thrived in the city. The same practices continue in our times, however today we give them different names and call them philosophies of life. In addition, because Jesus is fully God. He is the Second Person of the Trinity and the Author of all of creation. This is important for us to remember because God the Father has placed Him above all things and placed all things under His dominion. Dear believer, this is important to understand because of this present evil age, which believes it can compete with Jesus. That somehow Jesus is a choice among other religions or gods and that is not the case. What the world does not understand, is that because of who Jesus is and because of His completed work on the cross, Jesus has already won, why? Because Jesus is God in the flesh. Jesus is the eternal God of Heaven who stepped out of eternity and took on humanity. In God’s eyes it’s over, and all things in the universe have been placed under the divine sovereign authority of Christ Jesus our Lord and that’s the message which Paul is explaining here in these passages.
