Jesus Came That We May Have Eternal Life – (John 3:16-18)

Daily Verse(s)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Reading Notes
God’s word the Bible, makes it very clear, that His plan for the redemption of mankind through Jesus Christ is eternal. Moreover, the Bible tells us we were chosen in Christ Jesus before the foundations of the world were laid in place. Jesus is God, He is the Second Person of the Trinity. Jesus in His person is of the same essence and nature as God the Father. The word used when speaking of Jesus nature in the Bible is homoousios (ho’mo-u’sios) which means Jesus is one and the same, as God the Father. What John is telling us is that God loved us so much, that He Himself stepped out of eternity and took on humanity in the incarnation. Jesus the eternal God of Heaven, added humanity to His divinity, to forever become the God-man Jesus Christ. God loved us so much, that He walked among us in order to be our propitiation for sin. The word “propitiation,” means Jesus once and for all times, paid the price for our sins. Jesus is fully God and fully man.

Jesus shares the same nature and divinity as God the Father, while sharing the same human nature as we have. With the incarnation, Jesus added humanity to His divinity. This was necessary in order that He could be our perfect substitute at the Cross of Calvary. Jesus came for no other purpose than to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus who is sinless, Jesus who is very God, took upon Himself the punishment for all of our sins past, present and future. That we through our faith in Him, could have eternal life and a restored relationship with God the Father. The Apostle John goes on to say that all of us, those who have placed our faith in Jesus are not condemned, but have eternal life. We are saved because of His sacrifice for us. And those who do not believe in Jesus, those who do not accept Him as their Lord and Savior, are already condemned. Why? Because they did not believe in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Moreover, it’s important to remember all humanity is condemned because of the fall of mankind. We, in our fallen nature, do not have the ability to save ourselves, therefore salvation is through grace alone, which God freely offers by faith alone, in Jesus Christ our Lord.
