We Come Before God Through Christ – (Hebrews 4:16)

Daily Verse(s)
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Reading Notes
We have a very unique position because of our faith in Jesus, we now have a relationship with God which did not exist before. Because of our faith in Jesus, we have become children of God, and therefore we have access to God the Father through Christ Jesus our Lord. When Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary the thick, heavy veil in the Temple, which separated the people from the presence of God, was torn in two by God. This curtain which was extremely thick and impossible to tear, was torn down the middle by God, thereby exposing the Holy of Holies. This was the place where the Jewish High Priest would once a year, enter into the presence of God, and he did so for the forgiveness of sins. Moreover, at that time only the High Priest could come before the presence of God, and only in the prescribed manner. This veil prevented the people from coming before God, because the people could not come before God on their own, they had to have a mediator.

They were not allowed to approach God anytime they wanted, they were not allowed to approach God any way they wanted. Moreover, only the High Priest alone could serve as the mediator between them and a Holy God. In addition, the High Priest could only approach God once a year. However, when Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary and paid the price for our sins, we were reconciled back to God the Father. God tore this veil to show us that we never again had to go through a human mediator. Instead, Jesus has become our High Priest, He has become our mediator, once and for all times. Through Jesus, we can now as children of God, come before the throne of God with our prayers and supplications, asking our Heavenly Father for His help and guidance. We have this privilege because Jesus loved us so much! He died to make God’s grace available to us through faith alone. And His resurrection on the third day showed us, that He was indeed the living God of Heaven who stepped out of eternity, took on humanity and died for us. And Jesus did this for one reason, He took upon Himself the death of the cross, in order that He could take upon Himself the punishment for our sins past, present and future.
