Daily Bible Verses for 12/31/2016
Daily Verse(s)
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Reading Notes
Our world because of its fallen nature has tried its best in one form or another to make us think material wealth is the end goal of everything. The lie of this world is that wealth, fame, power and fortune brings happiness, contentment and an easy life. And that true power and sophistication, can be found only among the more expensive things in life. However, that is not how God see’s wealth! God gives us talents, desires, resources and abilities so that we can use them to provide for ourselves, our families and to help those in need around us. And God also gave us these gifts in order that we can help provide for, and support the spreading of the Gospel of Christ. An important Biblical concept from both the Old and New Testament is that God blesses us in order that we can be a blessing to others.
And because of this truth, we have to always remember that our faith is a matter of the heart, and what we love the most. This means that what we set our heart on, shows what we love and praise! In other words, where we place our time, talents and resources show what we love, follow and think about on a daily basis. And that object of affection should be Jesus the Lord our God. We must remember as followers of Christ every single Christian who has ever lived and ever will live shall come before Jesus. We will give an account of what we did for Him and others with the blessings God has given us. An account of how we used our time, talents and resources for others, out of the love we have for Jesus. This judgment will not be for salvation, but for eternal rewards in heaven. And anything not used for Him, anything not done out of our love for Jesus will be burned away.
