Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
Reading Notes
Dear believer, do you not know there is coming a time soon, when Jesus will dwell with us once again? He will rule and reign, and His saints will return with Him? The first Christmas gift is the Savior given to mankind to save us from our sins. A time when God Himself came down and dwelt with men. He suffered and died taking on our sin and the shame that came with it, and through His suffering He gave us the free gift of eternal life through our faith in Him. Jesus during His first advent was the suffering servant who came to heal the hearts of men, which the Bible foretold about. The second gift, which is not too far in the distant future, is that Jesus will return as our conquering King, Lord of lords who will rule the nations. This will be the culmination of human history, a time when the church age comes to a close and God’s plan of redemption reaches its conclusion. This is the time spoken of in these passages.
They are speaking about that time when Jesus will return and set up His kingdom. A time when the earth will be filled with His rule and His justice. Do we not know we are fast approaching the end of this age and the return of Christ? This is a time when Jesus will set up His kingdom and once again live among men, this period of time we call the Millennial Kingdom of Christ because of how long it will last. This will be a time when Jesus will rule from Jerusalem and nations will come to Him, to praise Him, to honor Him and to get understanding from God. The knowledge of God and Christ shall be throughout the world and He shall judge the nations and bring His peace and joy to mankind. His name is Jesus, He is also called Emanuel which means “God with man!” These passages speak of the future time to come when there truly will be peace on earth and goodwill toward men. This time will be followed by the ushering in of the new heavens and the new earth, which will be a time when no one shall learn war anymore.
