Attributes of God are Immeasurable – (Psalm 36:5-9)

Bible Verse
Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast. How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

Reading Notes
The attributes of the Lord are immeasurable and His love for us is never ending! How are we to know or attempt to understand the full scope of God’s immutability, infinite love, omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence? Though we can try to describe God’s loving-kindness with the biggest words, the most elaborate expressions possible, we are still left short. And what we’ll experience once we’re face to face with Jesus, exceeds our ability to describe while living in this fallen world. Through faith we are joint-heirs with Christ and adopted into the family of God. David wrote this psalm as he pondered God’s faithfulness and His goodness, as compared to the wickedness of mankind. David correctly marveled at the fact that though we are fallen humanity, all of whom are dead in our trespasses and sin, God loves us anyway. Moreover, all those who place their trust and faith in Jesus can receive salvation and experience the loving kindness of the Lord as we come into a close relationship with Him through faith.

David describes this close relationship with the Lord as being under the “protective wing” of God. In these passages, David is trying his best to describe the love God has for those who place their faith in Him alone. And though our words fail to convey what awaits us in heaven, God did give us one example, the ultimate evidence of His love for us is Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus who is fully God humbled Himself to take on humanity. Jesus who was born of a virgin, the incarnate God of Heaven stepped out of eternity and took on humanity for no other reason, than to save us by God’s grace. Jesus experienced everything that we experienced in order to be our perfect substitute. Taking our place and bearing the punishment, shame and guilt that we deserved. Jesus did this for us, and He did this for no other reason than to give us the ability to spend eternity with Him. This gives us the best example this side of heaven, of God’s love for us. Jesus is our fountain of life, He is the foundation of our eternal security and the light of the world. And through Him, by God’s grace alone we have eternal life to come and a more abundant life now, as we submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit who indwells all followers of Christ!
