The Natural Man is Unaware – (1st Corinthians 2:13-14)

Bible Verse
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Reading Notes
We are taught by God through the Holy Spirit and through His word, that there are Biblical truths that we cannot understand apart from a relationship with God through Christ Jesus our Lord. There are things we as followers of Christ know and understand which the lost can never know and can never understand without knowing Jesus, why? Because the Bible is God’s revelation to us regarding His plan of redemption for humanity. Therefore, the Bible from front cover to back cover, from Old Testament to New Testament is about Jesus. Moreover, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who brings with Him a supernatural life and wisdom for those who submit to Christ. We gain spiritual wisdom through the illumination of scripture by the Holy Spirit as we study God’s word. And because of that we can discern divine truth as it is recorded in the word of God.

We gain this ability when we read God’s word and store His precepts within our hearts. This is not possible for the natural man, in other words, someone who does not know Jesus. Because without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, they cannot discern divine truth from the reading of God’s word. However, this does not mean the believer does not have to study. On the contrary, we’re told by God to study His word and know His precepts. We do so by first believing the Bible is the word of God and comparing scripture with scripture as we read and study the Bible. In addition, we glean knowledge from other faithful Christians whom God has lifted up to be teachers called to feed His flock. This includes reading pillars of the faith, such as the Apostles and the early church fathers. And we do this knowing only the Bible contains the words of the true and living God. Moreover, only the Bible testifies of Christ and only the Bible reveals to us God’s plan of redemption.
