Things of God Confuse the World – (1st Corinthians 1:26-27)

Bible Verse
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.

Reading Notes
God does not save by human wisdom, human pride or human self-righteousness. God has shown that He disdains human wisdom by disallowing it as a means of coming to the knowledge of Him. And God has shown that human self-righteousness is nothing more than filthy rags before His eyes. Salvation is only through faith alone in Christ alone. And by faith alone we are saved from the wrath of God to come by His grace, why? Because of Jesus and His sacrifice for us! Therefore, the Holy Spirit is needed to touch the hearts of men and women, in order that we would accept the salvation of God. The wisdom of God cannot be known by the wisdom of man, instead it must be learned through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and from the study of God’s word, the Bible. In addition, once a person acknowledges that God does exist, they can gain wisdom from the study of nature which is called God’s general revelation.

Because of God’s general revelation which is the complexity and beauty of nature, and because of His special revelation which is His written word the Bible and because of the Holy Spirit’s speaking to the hearts of all people. No sinner can deny they did not know God exist. Moreover, no sinner can boast in their own salvation, nor claim their intellect led them to God, or that their own works of self-righteousness earned them heaven. Rather, it was the grace of God through Christ Jesus our Lord. As the Apostle Paul told us in his letter to the Ephesian church, “for by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; and not of works, lest any should boast.” Dear believers this is why God has chosen the simple things of the world, and why God doesn’t use the rich, the powerful, nor the proud. Instead, He uses those things considered nothing in this world. He does so to show us that salvation belongs to God, it is not the product of humanity. God is showing us, that salvation is not a matter of human pride or thought, but it’s found only in Jesus, and it’s a free gift given by grace, accessible only by faith, thereby giving God all the glory.
