Daily Bible Verses for 7/2/2016
Bible Verse
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.
Reading Notes
The message of the Cross means nothing to those who are perishing, in other words those in rebellion against God. To the wicked the Cross seems foolish and pointless. Those who are in rebellion against God, do not understand the relevance and need of the Cross to today’s world. However, we who are the children of God know it is the mighty power of God to save lives. Jesus did what only God could do and that is He removed the sins of those who are called to Him and gave them eternal life through faith in His name and what He did for us at the Cross of Calvary. Those in rebellion against God do not understand the life we live in this world of darkness, has no meaning outside of a life in Christ Jesus our Lord. This world and the things of this world are quickly passing away. Those who are lost do not realize that there is no real joy, no real meaning, purpose or real love without Jesus as the foundation of our lives.
Dear child of God, it’s from our relationship with Christ that real joy and love spring forth. Therefore, the time in which we live, this life that we have is our God given opportunity to use the free will God has given us to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. It is our time to secure an eternity for ourselves with the living God of the universe through His sovereign call to come to faith in Christ. We cannot forget the wisdom of this world is tainted! It’s tainted because of the fallen nature of humanity and because it is so intertwined with Satan, who the Apostle Paul calls, “the prince of the power of the air.” And therefore the wisdom of this world is in rebellion against God. Moreover, God has denied the wisdom of this world and the ways of mankind. Instead God has chosen to use the foolish things of this world to put to shame the thinking of the wise. God uses the foolish things to show mankind that in the wisdom of the world, there is nothing but foolishness and death, because the wisdom of this fallen world leads us away from Christ Jesus our Lord.
