Daily Bible Verses for 6/14/2016
Bible Verse
But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
Reading Notes
Jesus promised His disciples He would send the Holy Spirit, and we remember the story of the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon the believers. The Holy Spirit indwells all believers as part of God’s gift of grace. Therefore, we should never forget as followers of Jesus, we also have the Holy Spirit who is with us always, through the trials and tribulations we face in this world. He is ever-present guiding us through our daily lives and overseeing the process of sanctification in our lives. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, whom the Father sent, at the request of Christ Jesus our Lord. It’s the Holy Spirit who will testify of the divinity of Christ and bear witness to Jesus as the only source of salvation for mankind. A primary part of the Holy Spirit’s ministry is to bear witness to Jesus in this dark and dying world. The Holy Spirit also serves in the life of believers bringing the power of God into our lives through our faith in Christ.
In addition, the Holy Spirit serves to “illuminate” scripture as we study the Bible. He does so by helping us to understand God’s word in light of who Jesus is and what He has done for us. His presence with us is the second part of God’s promise of grace. This is called “Sanctifying Grace” and its through this process, we as followers of Jesus grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus and His word. The third part of God’s gift of grace to us, His children, is called “our future hope” which is our glorification. This is the time, we we go home to be with the Lord and we see Jesus face to face. Therefore, we as followers of Jesus should always ask ourselves this question, on a regular basis, “Can we hear the Holy Spirit speaking to us?” Have we turned our lives over to Christ and His guidance through the Holy Spirit? It is through the Holy Spirit, we have the power to testify of Jesus and witness to those unsaved souls, we encounter in our daily walk with the Lord. And it is by the Holy Spirit we share our joy of salvation.
