But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.

Reading Notes
The sting of death was removed by Jesus at the Cross of Calvary! Moreover, victory over death was assured by His resurrection! Death’s sting was exposed to us by the Law of God, which clearly demonstrated that no one can be justified under the law. In other words, when we compare our thoughts and actions, which is what God looks at, to His holy law we are all guilty before God. And that was the point of the Law. God gave us His law to show us the perfect standard by which He judges and to make it abundantly clear to us, that by the deeds of the flesh, no one can be justified before God. Because with the law all have sinned and therefore by the law all are found guilty, none of us are perfect and none of us can earn our way into Heaven. Moreover, because of our sin, which was exposed to us by the law, we all had the penalty of death and separation from God facing us.

The penalty we faced, was an eternity spent separated from God in everlasting torment. And from an earthly perspective, It would seem that we had no hope of salvation. However, through the grace of God that penalty was removed by Jesus! By God’s grace, through Christ our Lord, that penalty was forever taken away. We have been given freedom and eternal life because of what Jesus did for us at the Cross of Calvary. By His resurrection, Jesus victory over death provided for us a surety of the eternity we will spend in His presence. Paul in this section of scripture is warning his readers, Satan would love nothing more than to have us question our salvation. And if he can’t get us to fall away from Jesus, then he will attack us with spiritual warfare. Therefore, we are to stand fast in Christ Jesus our Lord, and strengthen ourselves with the word of God, following the guidance and promptings of the Holy Spirit and putting on the full armor of God made available to us through our faith in Christ.
