The God We Love – (Psalm 39:1,4)

Bible Verse
I will guard my ways, lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked are before me… Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.

Reading Notes
These verses begin David’s prayer to the Lord for strength, wisdom and forgiveness as he goes through trials. David, who is heavily weighed down is speaking to us on how to deal with the burdens and struggles of life. Especially when going through trials meant to bring about our destruction. We can share these feelings as well, when we have to deal with issues and struggles in our own life. How often have we watched and felt the unfairness as the wicked seem to breeze through life with what appears to be relative ease, and without the hint of trials or tribulations on the horizon. Moreover, how much had we wanted to intervene and say something? David felt the same way during periods of his life.

However, with his heart toward God, he prayed for guidance, wisdom and strength. He then closed his mouth and did not complain to God. Especially in the hearing of the wicked and others who may take his words and use them as an accusation against the Lord. As hard as it is, we too should seek God’s guidance. We should remember, what to us may seem justified and warranted, may be used by the enemy to impugn the name of the God we love. Our actions can be used by the enemy to drive others away from the Gospel Message of salvation through Christ alone. Though it seems impossible at times we should seek God’s strength and guidance to help us seek not our own justification; but the glory of the Lord whom we serve.
