Bible Verse
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
Reading Notes
The resurrection shows us that Jesus truly is the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus is God in the flesh, fully God and fully man. This fact is vitally important to our understanding of Christianity. The first chapter of John’s Gospel tells us that Jesus is not only God, but He is also the Author of all creation. Jesus is the eternal God of Heaven, who stepped out of eternity and took on humanity with the incarnation. He did this for no other reason, than to die for us on the Cross. God did this for us, because there is no amount of animal sacrifices, nor good deeds whereby we could earn our way to Heaven. Therefore, it’s the resurrection which gives us our assurance that Jesus was who He claimed to be, God in the flesh. And it’s the resurrection which gives us our assurance that we too will spend eternity with Him. Because of what Jesus did for us and our faith in Him we have been adopted into the family of God as children of God and joint heirs with Christ in the kingdom of God.
Dear child of God always remember, there is so much historical, manuscript, archeological and other evidence over the resurrection of Jesus and the reliability of the Bible that nothing else in ancient history compares. When all the talking is done the bottom line is nothing in history is as well documented, attested to and proven as the history of Jesus and His resurrection. Moreover, the resurrection and divinity of Jesus are part of the bedrock of our Christian faith. This is what sets Christianity apart from everything else and from all other religions. This is why you cannot reconcile Christianity with any other religion. This is such an important part of our faith. In addition, many men have spent a great part of their life researching, trying to disprove the resurrection and the Bible. In the end only to become Christians due to the overwhelming evidence. And because of that God used these men to become some of the most well-known and faithful men of God. These men had dedicated their lives to study, research and know their faith, the scriptures and the evidence. They for themselves and for us as well, have proven over and over the reliability of the word of God.
