Wisdom is Trusting the Lord and Seeking His Guidance – (Proverbs 30:5-6, 8-9)

Bible Verse
Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. Remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food allotted to me; lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God.

Reading Notes
This particular proverb was written by a man named Agur who lived around the time of Solomon. Through the work of the Holy Spirit Agur’s heart reflects humility, honesty and a deep sense of trust in the Lord, as well as reliance on His word. And as followers of Christ, we know the security of our faith in Jesus and the blessings associated with God’s word. Along with the blessings, guidance and comfort which comes from the study of scripture as it serves to build the foundation of our faith even stronger. Through the study of God’s word we know the end for us is certain and the plans God has for us are good. Even though trials will come and suffering will occur, the end is certain and nothing can snatch us from the hands of Jesus. This trust is not misplaced, it rests solidly on the divine nature of God’s word.

Moreover, we stand firmly on the fact that all scripture is God breathed, this means it was handed down from God to the authors of the Bible, through the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit. In addition, we must remember God’s word is His revelation to us, regarding His plan of redemption. Therefore, the Bible from front cover to back cover speaks to us about Christ Jesus our Lord. All of scripture points to Jesus. Moreover, He is the culmination of all scripture and God’s plan of redemption. And it’s because of the surety of this foundation, that the Holy Spirit warns us not to add to the word of God, or change His word to seek our own advantage. In addition Agur shows wisdom in asking God, not to make him too poor or too rich; because he understands his own weaknesses which can make him rebel against God. We should also never forget the sin nature that resides in all of us. Our sin nature can also make us rebel against the Lord either by cursing or denying our Creator because of our circumstances, whether they be poverty, abuse, illness or riches.
