Bible Verse
She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

Reading Notes
This section of passages is a continuation of the last section and it speaks again about the perseverance, wisdom and hard work of the excellent wife. Now each of these passages are not meant to be taken literally. Rather, they come together to show the importance, value and necessity for a wife and mother who is devoted to her family. A wife and mother were meant to thrive under the support and protection of a loving husband. Moreover, it shows all the aspects of daily life of caring for a family and how varied and important each task is not only to the family, but also to society. We see in these passages how her family is well cared for and prepared for all seasons.

And the phrase “her clothing is fine linen and purple” is meant to give us an indication of the quality of her work. However, if we step back and look at this chapter as a whole, we see the big picture and the overall message. Which is the importance of the role of the wife and mother in the family, and therefore to society! This is important because our world today has spent considerable time and effort telling everyone that being a mother and wife is not fulfilling. That somehow those roles should be subservient to career and success and as we can see from these passages that is just not true. Moreover, the role of wife and mother is one of the most important roles in our society today. This is because mothers help shape the hearts and minds of the next generation. Moreover, mothers and grandmothers play an important role in leading their children to Christ Jesus our Lord.
