Daily Verse(s)
In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
Reading Notes
The Bible tells us that God the Father, chose us in Christ, before the foundations of the world were laid in place. Before we were created, God had us in mind and already began His plan of redemption for each of us. Moreover, the Bible tells us that Jesus is the author of creation, and that He knew us before creation began, so that by our faith in Him, He would become the divine source of our inheritance. An inheritance given to us by grace alone, through faith alone. An inheritance which is so certain that God’s word speaks of it, as if it has already been completed. Another incredible truth about this passage is the phrase “Him who works all things.” The word translated here as “works” is where we get the word energy. And it conveys the meaning that Jesus is not only God, and the one who created all things, but He is also our divine source of strength and we are sustained through Him. He is the source from which we draw our daily guidance and strength, and we receive these things daily as we submit to the Holy Spirit who indwells all followers of Christ. In addition, it also gives us greater insight into God’s creative power and the miracle of creation.
How is that? Because it carries the meaning that He created everything complete, mature and already functioning at the moment of creation. So by taking these passages in context and looking at their message, they tell us that Jesus chose us as a special people unto Himself before creation began. And as one of the many gifts of our salvation, we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who “energizes us,” or gives us the power to carry out Jesus’ will for our lives, as we follow him. Why? Because God the Father’s love for us is endless and His mercy toward us is great! As we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our day to day lives, we will walk with Christ, and He will strengthen and sustain us along the path of our lives. Dear child of God, this means there is nothing more we need. Jesus is our everything! We have everything we need in Jesus to equip us for an abundant life. We have everything we need to carry out the good work God has called us to do, and we do so as the Holy Spirit carries out His work of changing our hearts and minds, through God’s process of spiritual growth called “sanctification.” Therefore, we never forget our daily walk is to bring about the worship, glory and praise of God the Father, through our faith in God the Son, who is Christ Jesus our Lord. And we do so as we submit daily to the guidance of God the Spirit, who is the Holy Spirit.
