Daily Bible Verses for 2/3/2017
Daily Verse(s)
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Reading Notes
One of the tests every Christian faces is the test of love. If we say we have Christ and that we abide in Him, then we are saying we have a proven love for Jesus and His word, the Bible. Moreover, if we say have a relationship with Jesus, then we are saying that we have a love for God, a love for the things of God, a love for others and a heart for those who are lost. In addition, we will also have an absence of love for the things of the world. We have to understand that the world and Satan are diametrically opposed to God and therefore, we cannot love both of them. We cannot have both a desire and love for the things of this world, and also claim a love for the things of God. Because what we love, is where we place our loyalty and what our heart desires. This means to love the world is to position ourselves against God. To love the world is to be in opposition to God. To love the world, its ways, the way it thinks and the things of the world is to say you hate God.
So therefore, it’s important for us to understand that the things of this world are passing away. And while the world’s philosophies, ideologies, style and material possessions may seem attractive they are a deception which hides the evil underneath. Because they position themselves in direct opposition to Christ Jesus our Lord. We must never forget the world’s philosophies, ideologies, social movements and attitudes have one direct source of influence. And that is the one whom the Apostle Paul calls, “the prince of the power of the air,” who is Satan. Dear child of God, we must remember until we see Jesus face to face we have three enemies in this world, who will always strive to separate us from Christ. They are our sin nature, a fallen world, which is at enmity with God as well as Satan and those demons who followed him in his rebellion against God. Moreover, Satan and the demons that follow him know how things will end, they know where they will spend eternity. Therefore, their only goal is to take as many people as they can, those created in the image of God, with them to Hell forever.
