Bible Verse
And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?
Reading Notes
It was necessary for Jesus to die in order to pay the price for our sins, however, it was also necessary for Him to rise again on the third day! The resurrection of Jesus shows us that He is who He has always claimed to be, that is very God. Jesus alone had the power to lay down His life and pick it up again. And the resurrection shows us that He did so for us. He laid down His life to reconcile us, a sinful mankind back to God. Therefore, our faith is not a dead faith, it is a living and active faith! Our faith is in the living God of the universe. Jesus is alive today, seated at the right hand of God the Father, where He makes intercession for all the saints. We serve a living God who has indwelt us with His Holy Spirit, that we may live to Christ and spread the Good News of salvation in Christ alone. Dear believer, never forget we live among the living not the dead. We who were once dead in our trespasses and sins are now alive to Christ, because of the gifts of God’s salvation.
As the Apostle Paul tells us we have passed from death into life. And because of what Jesus did for us at the Cross of Calvary, we will spend eternity with Him in heaven. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our faith. It is the purpose for which scripture was written. God did this because we were in a hopeless state. God’s law is perfect, it showed us that God’s standard is perfection in thought and deed one-hundred percent of the time. And because God is just, He could not look the other way, the price of sin has to be paid for. And if all sin is deserving of eternal separation from God, how then could sinful mankind pay for their sins? How many times can a person die for their sins? This is why the living God of Heaven stepped out of eternity and took on flesh. He did so that through His sacrifice we may live to God. Therefore, since we are alive in Christ, we must make our lives a living sacrifice, sharing our story of salvation with those we meet. Through the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we become an example of how the Gospel changes lives.
