Bible Verse
My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.
Reading Notes
God has given us His word in order that we may know Him and gain wisdom from the reading and studying of it. Moreover, God has protected His word through the ages so we can be assured the scripture we read today is the same scripture Jesus read during His time with us. As followers of Jesus, God has also given us the Holy Spirit that He may turn our hearts toward the Lord as we practice discernment and understanding, as we grow in wisdom from the studying of God’s word, the Bible. The Holy Spirit helps us to better understand the scripture as we study God’s word, because He helps us to see it in light of who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Moreover, because of our salvation, we are also indwelt by the Holy Spirit who begins God’s process of sanctification in us.
Sanctification is the process of spiritual growth carried out by God in our lives. The Holy Spirit’s work of sanctification transforms our hearts and minds, and thereby helps us to better understand the Bible. Because the Bible is God’s revelation to us regarding His plan of redemption for mankind and His interactions with humanity. The Bible leads us to redemption, how? Because it leads us to Jesus. Through faith God provides for us a redemption which can only come through Christ Jesus our Lord. In addition, God’s word gives us practical wisdom for day-to-day life. Wisdom in how we live our lives, conduct business and relate to one another and carry ourselves throughout life. Moreover, God’s word gives us everything we need to live not only a good life and a blessed life now. But to also live a more abundant life in Christ, which is a life that is pleasing to God and effective for His kingdom work. This doesn’t mean we won’t have trials in our life, because we will, along with suffering and loss; but it does mean as followers of Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit to comfort and carry us through our trials.
