Daily Bible Verses for 8/10/2016
Bible Verse
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.
Reading Notes
God calls us to Himself for our salvation. The Holy Spirit works in us, in order that we can answer God’s call to salvation. And when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are transformed into children of God, adopted into the family of God through faith. With our salvation, our spirit which was dead in our trespasses and sins, is replaced by a new spirit which is alive to God and the things of God. In addition, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who seals us until the day of our glorification when we go home to be with the Lord. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, our old nature was crucified with Jesus on the Cross, and in His resurrection we are risen with Him as a new creation in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, our inheritance is in heaven, not here on earth. Our inheritance is in Jesus and not in this world. We have to remember, when we store up treasures here on earth, which is material possessions, we are storing up fuel for the fire to be burned away when we go before Jesus for our rewards.
Jesus is the very God of heaven, he stepped out of eternity and took on humanity for the sole purpose of taking on the Cross for us. He did this to secure an eternity of joy and reward for us. An eternity which awaits us, and one that will be spent with Him! Having proven Himself through His resurrection, He has given us the guarantee of eternal life which is reserved for us by our faith in Him. Through Jesus work on the Cross and our faith in Him, we have been reborn into the family of God. This new birth brings with it eternal life, peace, joy, a glorious companionship with Him and eternal rewards. God gives this to us as a free gift, as part of our salvation. Because of our faith in Jesus, we freely received His imputed righteousness. We are now righteous in the eyes of God by faith. And because of faith we have these gifts reserved for us because of Jesus’ completed work on the Cross, which He took upon Himself for us. Therefore, why do we worry about building treasures here, which will be burned away? When we see Jesus face to face the only thing that will matter is what we did for Him with the time, talents and resources God has given us in this life.
